Quick Walk Through: Mango Salsa
Ingredients You'll Need To Make Mango Salsa
What is Tajin Seasoning?
Tajin seasoning is a spice mix that is commonly found in Mexican food. It is made from chilli peppers, salt and dehydrated lime juice. The seasoning is not very spicy, but it packs a lot of flavor in any dish it’s added to. In India, you can easily find a bottle of this seasoning online on Amazon. Sometimes large grocery store chains like Nature’s Basket also keep it.
However, if you can’t find tajin seasoning, you can make a similar concoction at home with ⅛ teaspoon of fine chilli flakes mixed with ⅛ teaspoon of salt and a few drops of lime juice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Simple ingredients like ripe mangoes, onions, jalapenos, capsicum, lime, salt, coriander and chillies come together to make mango salsa. The result is a sweet, spicy, and tart dish that is insanely refreshing and delicious!
This is a really versatile side dish! You can add it to tacos or salads, eat it with fried fish or grilled chicken, serve it as a dip with chips and guac, or simply put it on toast. There’s just so much you can do with this dish and there’s no wrong way to eat it!
The main difference between mango chutney and mango salsa is in their flavor. Chutneys are usually sweeter and tend to have a more complex flavor profile, while salsa on the other hand, is more spicy and tart.
You can store mango salsa leftovers in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. It is best to make mango salsa in small batches as and when required to maintain its fresh flavors and texture.
I would not recommend freezing this dish. Mango salsa is all about the freshness and vibrancy of the ingredients, and it tastes the best when made and eaten fresh. Freezing this mango salsa, although technically possible, will end up changing the flavors and textures.
Richa’s Top Tips To Make The Best Mango Salsa
- Mangoes are the star ingredient in this recipe and I would recommend using fresh, ripe and sweet mangoes for the best flavor.
- Avoid using overripe mangoes as they will not hold their shape and become mushy, which could affect the texture of this mango salsa dip.
- If you can’t find pickled jalapenos, feel free to replace it with chopped green chillies.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of jalapenos to suit your personal spice tolerance, especially if you are making this for kids.
- Make sure all the ingredients are diced small and of even size for uniformity.
While this is a basic recipe, there’s so much more you can do with it. You can add diced avocados for a rich and creamy spread, or cooked beans to make a salad or a more wholesome dip. Eat it anyway you like, be creative with this one, but this tropical dish definitely needs to be on your summer menu!
