Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, this Thanksgiving Dinner with an Indian Twist will get you calling friends and family and setting a dinner date-and-time right away.
This is my desi take on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner – bread rolls meet ladi pav, baked turkey meets a whole masala roast chicken… you get the delicious picture. Add these to your menu and you’ll find your gratitude list to be extraaa long this year.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and if you’re looking to spice things up with an Indian touch to your dinner table this year, or if you’re just looking to reimagine Thanksgiving with new flavours — this round-up is for you.
The idea for this Indian-inspired Thanksgiving recipes round-up came from the fact that whole Turkey, fresh cranberries, etc. are not very accessible in India. I wanted to develop a round-up that used local ingredients and flavours but still gave you that Thanksgiving dinner feel. It’s such a fun way to switch up the menu if you DO celebrate traditionally too!
Alsoooo, I share my FAV traditional style recipes at the end of this blog post tooo so stick around for even more Thanksgiving dinner inspo that I just know you’ll loveee.
P.S. Here's a printable of the menu - thanksgiving dinner with an indian twist in case you'd like to keep it handy.
Appetizers
1. Bombay Potatoes: I call these chatpate masala aloo for a reason! These are baby potatoes coated with bold desi spices like raw mango powder and garam masala, to name a few.
2. Achaari Paneer Naan Bombs: This is one of my latest recipes – it’s got a soft naan dough covering and a cheesy achari paneer filling that’s to die for. You need to have something to dunk on the table! Serve this with my mint chutney.
3. Jalapeno 3 Cheese Samosa: Jalapeno poppers meet crispy samosas. Need I say more? And if there’s one thing about this menu, it’s anything from traditional! Pair this with my Tamarind Chutney, the desi Cranberry Sauce of the table 😛
4. Mumbai Ladi Pav: A Thanksgiving spread has got to have bread rolls! So of course my desi menu includes ladi pav, these superrr soft buns that I love to top with lots of butter. A little hack: load on your Bombay potatoes and add some lasun khobra chutney for the ultimate bite!
Mains:
1. Indian Style Whole Masala Roast Chicken: This is my Indian spin on a roast chicken which just haddd to be in this round up. It’s tender, juicy, and just BURSTING with robust Indian flavours. It’s a super interesting way to spice up your Thanksgiving roast and do something different this year.
2. Tandoori Whole Baked Cauliflower: This is the perfect inclusion for all the vegetarians on your table! It’s a really stunning dish that’s got the same char and flavours as our chicken roast so I love to pair them together. This is also so so good with my mint chutney and veg pulao!
3. Peanut Pumpkin Sabzi: It’s not a Thanksgiving round up without at least ONE pumpkin dish. And I chose to go the savoury route with this dry pumpkin sabzi that’s so easy to serve and is one of those dishes that you just want to load onto your plate.
4. Pressure Cooker Veg Pulao: This rice pilaf will be the most SATISFYING addition to your Thanksgiving table. The rice is fluffy, super customisable, and super versatile so it’ll pair with quite literally everything. My FAV pairing is this + tandoori cauliflower + my amazing spiralized cucumber raita. Bliss!
Desserts:
1. Masala Chai Panna Cotta: Okay, this is no Pumpkin Pie. But it’s got the same warming spiced flavour and using tea leaves here just gives it that desi twist that I love! Very on theme with this Indian-inspired spread and an ultimate crowd-pleaser for sure.
2. Caramel Custard: This just takes 15 mins of prep so it’s perfect for hosting. Also I have never met anyone who doesn’t like a caramel custard!
3. Garam Masala Eggless Apple Bundt Cake: Come November and I’m always thinking about warm spices and apples so of course this cake had to feature on the menu. You can make this in a regular pan too if you don’t have a bundt pan on you, it’s perfect either way.
This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for YOU GUYSSS. I hope you love this roundup just as much as I do, and if you’re making this along with me this year, be sure to send me pictures on my Instagram!
